Godzilla in Spain occurs for the first time in the film Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire: the Japanese kaiju “retires” on the Andalusian coasts.
Godzilla It has always been one of the quintessential Japanese mascots. Starring in almost 40 films over 70 years, Godzilla has always wandered around things Japanese or Pacific Islands, except for his American incursions.
But Monsterverse from Legendary Pictures, already totally mutated in the Godzilla “Showa” era films of the 60s and 70s after the recent release of Godzilla and Kong: The New Empireit is much more international.
Precisely, the latest Monsterverse blockbuster has fights in Rio de Janeiro, Egypt, Rome… but also other locations, even if they appear fleetingly. Including Spain for the first time in the franchise (be careful, SPOILERS mild of Godzilla x Kong hereinafter).
The locations in Spain that Godzilla visits for the first time in the franchise
Although much of the film takes place in the Hollow Earth, Godzilla visits several real locations in the film. He begins the film in Rome, then goes to France to a nuclear power plant, and crosses the entire Iberian peninsula to return to the Atlantic… through the city of Cadiz.
They are just a couple of shots, in which Godzilla is seen devastating the coastal city without complexes. Furthermore, since he comes from France, we know that has crossed the entire peninsula.
In fact, there is a plan in which you can see a map of the Iberian Peninsula with the direction that Godzilla has taken, so, when the film comes out in domestic format, fans will be able to stop it at the right moment to know which other provinces and cities Godzilla has devastated…canonically.
But the most surreal moment of the film came later, when Godzilla jumped from the Rock of Gibraltar.
It seems that Godzilla, who knew it, likes heights, and was resting peacefully on the rock, which he has claimed as his own, when he hears the “call of Kong” (from Egypt)… and then he dives as if jumping of a trampoline.
Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire It was released this Easter holiday, and the reviews from fans have been very positive: anyone who likes Godzilla, Kong and monster movies will enjoy an unprecedented action festival.
