From next summer, to monitor safety on Spanish roads there will also be officers on motorbikes camouflaged in the middle of traffic with the aim of identifying dangerous conduct

According to what was declared by the number one of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), Pere Navarro, in an interview granted to El País, from next summer there will be “fake motorcyclists” circulating on Iberian roads, so to speak. These will be police officers camouflaged as common centaurs riding their motorbikes who will have the task of monitoring traffic and promptly identifying dangerous conduct. “It will happen especially on weekends, in the most complicated areas, to avoid inappropriate behavior. In this way, a motorcyclist who finds himself next to another could be an agent of the Civil Guard”, added Navarro. In fact, one of the main concerns of the Iberian road authorities concerns the reduction of fatal accidents involving motorcyclists, a phenomenon which has unfortunately been increasing in the last decade.
We find that the idea could also make a lot of sense in Italy, not only as a deterrent for motorcyclists to drive too exuberantly, so to speak, but also as a means of monitoring what happens on the roads. Every day we witness senseless maneuvers by motorcyclists, motorists, truck drivers, cyclists… and if often there are no consequences, as we know many other times they can also have very serious ones. As we have noticed with the experience on two wheels, the motorcyclist has a privileged position in observing what is happening around him. Either because he is immersed in what he is going through, be it a beautiful landscape or the intense traffic of the city, or because he is a user exposed to what others do, the motorcyclist is by his conformation more suited to noticing everything. In Spain they propose this solution to limit the bad behavior of motorcyclists, but in our opinion it could be useful across the board. What do you think about it?
