Price RC
The inexorable rise in average prices for third-party insurance policies continues, which, having soared at the beginning of 2022 after the decline recorded during the lockdown period, marked the historic high of the last 5 years in 2023 (we told you about it here). Unfortunately – some had deluded themselves – 2024 is no exception in this sense, on the contrary: according to the data collected by Ivass, in February this year the average price of the RC stood at 395 euros, increasing in nominal terms of 6.5% on an annual basis.
A figure that Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers Union, did not hesitate to define as “scandalous”, asking the Antitrust to verify that, in the cities and capitals with the highest increases, there are no “restrictions on competition, collusive agreements or abuses of a dominant position”. But let's look at the numbers more closely.
The biggest increases
“To find a higher average price in February – said Dona – you have to go back to 2019, when it was equal to 405.54, i.e. 5 years ago, before the millionaire profit obtained by the companies thanks to the lockdowns. In some cities, then, the increase is even astronomical, such as in Aosta where the annual increase is 11% or in Padua, in second place in the ranking with +9.2%, or in Brindisi, Belluno and Alessandria with +9 ,1%”.
The highest average premium
The highest average premium, however, goes to a new entry: Monza and Brianza with a price of 568.95 euros. Silver medal for Pescara with 564.98 euros. On the lowest step of the podium Caserta with 508.35 euros. For once, Naples is not the worst, placing itself “only” in 13th position in terms of increase (+8.2%) and in 92nd position in terms of average premium with 333.42 euros.
