The Mandalorian: What happened to Cobb Vanth?

Timothy Olyphant's Cobb Vanth has been absent from Star Wars lately, raising the question of whether the character The Mandalorian could come back

Cobb Vanth de The Mandalorianplayed by Timothy Olyphant, has recently been absent from Star Wars and many are wondering if he could return. Cobb Vanth from Season 2 of Mandalorian was introduced in the appropriately titled “Chapter 9: The Marshal.” Cobb Vanth donned Boba Fett's armor after purchasing it from Jawas and returned to his home of Mos Pelgo on Tatooine to expel members of the Mining Collective who had been exploiting the townspeople.

At the beginning of season 2 of The Mandalorian, the titular Din Djarin sought out Vanth after learning that a Mandalorian was protecting Mos Pelgo. Vanth then became an ally of Din Djarin, leading many to wish for more appearances in upcoming Star Wars television shows. Even the upcoming Star Wars films have since become the subject of theorizing about Vanth's return, although the character has had his share of life-changing events in Star Wars between the events of season 2 of The Mandalorian and the potential story of season 4 of The Mandalorian.

Cobb Vanth survived his shootout with Cad Bane

After the events of season 2 of The MandalorianCobb Vanth returned in The Boba Fett book. Vanth was shown defending Mos Pelgo, renamed Freetown, from members of the Pyke Syndicate who wished to involve Tatooine in their spice trading operation. This led to Vanth being sought out by Din Djarin once again, and the latter asked him to help Boba Fett repel the Pyke Syndicate. Vanth rejected Djarin's offer before being intimidated by another bounty hunter, Star Wars' infamous Cad Bane.

Bane and Vanth engaged in a brief firefight, with the latter suffering a serious injury. With the people of Freetown feeling threatened by the Pykes in the wake of Vanth's injury, they teamed up with Boba Fett to eliminate the Syndicate from Tatooine. After his duel with Cad Bane, little was seen of Cobb Vanth until a post-credits scene at the end of season 1 of The Book of Boba Fett. In this scene, Vanth is shown still alive in a bacta tank owned by Fett, recovering from wounds suffered at the hands of Bane. The reveal that Cobb Vanth was alive came in episode 7 of The Boba Fett bookwhich aired in February 2022. Since then, Vanth has not been seen or mentioned in any Star Wars properties, raising the question of where he might appear again in a galaxy far, far away. The character of Cobb Vanth certainly has a lot of potential and there are several upcoming projects in which the gunslinger could return, including, The Mandalorian & Grogu y Skeleton Crew.
