Every year, different natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and droughts affect several countries in the world. They cause deaths, material damage and millions of losses. In this sense, the German association Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft, in collaboration with the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict of the Ruhr University in Bochum, published the latest World Risk Report 2023. The country most exposed to suffering a natural disaster
According to the World Risk Index, the country most exposed to a natural disaster is the Philippines, with a probability score of 46.86%, considered “very high.” This Asian nation recorded high levels regarding the vulnerability of its population and its susceptibility. Their infrastructure, nutrition, income and economic conditions were taken into account.
On the other hand, it was discovered that it has a low capacity to cope with the Government, medical care and security.
It is important to note that the Philippines is a country highly exposed to earthquakes, eruptions and typhoons. In large part, the appearance of these phenomena is due to its geographical positioning, since it is located within the Pacific Ring of Fire. According to the 2023 World Risk Index, the two Latin American countries most exposed to natural catastrophes are Mexico and Colombia, which are positioned in fourth and fifth place respectively.
