Writer Timothy Zahn talks about Thrawn’s debut in Ahsoka, the Star Wars series currently streaming on Disney Plus.
Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of Star Wars’ most iconic villains, has returned to the screen in the Disney Plus series Ahsoka, and the character’s creator, Timothy Zahn, has shared his thoughts on this exciting live-action debut.
Lars Mikkelsen reprises his role as the feared Thrawn in the series Ahsoka, after previously playing him in the hit animated series Star Wars Rebels. Thrawn’s inclusion in the show has fans excited and Timothy Zahn is no exception.

Timothy Zahn, who wrote the Heir to the Empire trilogy of novels that introduced Thrawn to the Star Wars universe, is confident that series creator Dave Filoni will do an excellent job bringing the character to live-action. According to Zahn, Filoni already demonstrated his deep understanding of the character by bringing Thrawn to life in Rebels.
“I’m very excited, especially being under the tutelage of Dave Filoni. He had shown in Rebels that he understands Thrawn, that he knows how to write for him, that he understands how to defeat him. You give him something he can’t control or something he doesn’t know.”
However, Zahn admitted that he also has some concerns: “I was always worried about whether the writers who brought him in would understand him enough to write properly. Filoni seems to have understood it. So I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s up to. I know a little bit about some of the new characters, some of the new dynamics. “It will be interesting to see.” Said Timothy Zahn at Dragon Con 2023.

Grand Admiral Thrawn was created by Timothy Zahn and debuted in Star Wars through the Heir to the Empire trilogy, published between 1991 and 1993. Thrawn is an Imperial military leader of the Chiss race and became a formidable threat to the New Republic. His strategic intellect and cunning made him a fearsome adversary, and in the original trilogy, he even attempted to lure Darth Vader’s children to the dark side.
The latest episode of Ahsoka finally featured the long-awaited live-action debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen. Although Lucasfilm has not officially confirmed his future in the Star Wars universe, there are rumors suggesting that Thrawn could be the main antagonist in the upcoming Star Wars crossover film directed by Dave Filoni.
