If you want your children to focus on tasks and homework and free themselves a little from so many hours on the Internet, you can do some small configurations on your Orange router that will help you achieve it. We will explain how to take control of Internet use at home, establishing time and access limits through the Orange router configuration options.
How to access the router
First of all, of course, you must learn how to enter the router. You can do it from your mobile or from your computer as long as you are connected on the same network, either by WiFi or by cable. First of all, make sure you are connected to the router and write the following address in the URL of your browser: 192.168.1.1.
Once the 192.168.1.1 gateway has been entered, the interface to access the router will appear in your browser, where you will have to enter username and password. The user will be “admin” by default and you will not have to modify it, and the password will be the WiFi password that the router has by default. It appears on the label attached to the bottom. Once entered, press Enter and we will be inside the router to make all the configurations we want.
Set WiFi operating hours
One of the most interesting options to control WiFi at home is to set a usage schedule. With this schedule, we will limit the use of the Internet when our children are at home. Once we are inside the router we can choose what time we want the WiFi to work so that it is only during this time slot that they can connect to the Internet from their mobile phone, tablet or computer. Additionally, one of the advantages of this method is that you will choose what time they can access the WiFi but it will not limit you because you can continue using the Internet via cable if you want or need to use your computer. Or you can even create another WiFi network for the elderly to use.
To configure the WiFi operating hours, you must follow a few simple steps once you are inside the router interface:
In the main window of the router, look for the “WiFi Settings” Once inside “WiFi Settings”, look for the option “Hours of operation” u “Access hours” Enable this option and configure schedules in which you want WiFi to be active.
Save changes done and wait for the router to reset.
Content filters
Beyond configuring the schedule for using WiFi at home, you can configure a content filter to ensure that the little ones in the house do not access unwanted websites. It is a highly recommended option to prevent your children from seeing certain types of content or accessing web pages that they should not.
To configure the content filter you must enter the router interface again as we did before. Once inside, you must look for the “Security” and find the option “Content filters” or “Parental controls”. Enable this option and configure the categories of websites you want to block. You can block content related to violence, pornography, gambling, etc.
Save the changes made and wait for the router to return to normal operation.
Access to the list of connected devices
Another interesting function that you can take into account is accessing connected devices. This tool will allow you to check whether your limitation has an effect or not or you will be able to know, at a glance, what devices are connected and which ones shouldn’t be.
The devices will appear with the owner’s name, if it has been modified on the device itself. Or with the brand and model of the device, María’s iPhone, for example. By having access to the router interface, you will be able to control the devices connected to the network, and at any time, disable any device. This way, you can control all the devices connected to the network at any time.
