The world of video games lived outside the problems of Hollywood. But now the actors’ strike has hit the industry.
The actors’ strike has moved to video games. Actors in the United States are increasingly concerned about the lack of protection and labor rights in their industry, but also in other sectors that are indirectly linked to their trades. After a strike of more than several months in the film and television industry, members of the SAG-AFTRA union have voted in favor of a strike against the video game industry. This has been reported since Discussing Film.
SAG-AFTRA members have approved a strike against the video game industry with 98.32% voting YES.
This does not mean that they will go on strike, it is dependent on if a deal can be reached between SAG and the major video game companies.

The vote on the actors’ strike, held last Monday, had 98.32% support. This means that, if an agreement is not reached between SAG and the large video game companies, Actors could go on strike starting August 1, 2023. Of course, this is completely unexpected, but it makes some sense. After all, actors like Norman Reedus have been seen in video games like Death Stranding. Not to mention all those voice actors who bring multiple characters to life in many titles that players enjoy.
What impact could this strike have on video games?
A video game actors strike could have a significant impact on the industry. Video games are a booming sector, and a strike could delay the development and release of new games. It could also affect already released video games, as it could hinder the development of additional content, such as DLC or patches. It must be taken into account that the video game industry has already been greatly affected by labor overexploitation (crunch) and the digital effects crisis. This is what has caused countless projects to be delayed or some to have had a bad launch.
