“It all started about four years ago,” says Jakob Slager, chairman of the Het Wijde Gat foundation. “Someone from the Staphorst Historical Association thought that more attention should be paid to the former camp. The Kamp Het Wijde Gat foundation was subsequently created. With the help of the province of Overijssel, the municipality of Staphorst, Staatsbosbeheer and local sponsors, we managed to place a monument here.”
