The Spaniard’s words after the Aragon GP
September 24, 2023
How did you manage to overcome the difficult moment you experienced yesterday?
“I spent the evening with my family, trying to have fun with my daughters. I tried not to think about the next day’s races and to sleep well to face today as best as possible. Today as soon as I got on my bike I found the same feeling I’ve always had, and this also helped me forget what happened yesterday. In the end I’m very happy with how this weekend went. I learned a lot from yesterday, which taught me that even if you do everything in the best way and feel capable of winning, you always have to keep your guard up, because the unexpected can always happen. You always have to stay focused and give your best effort.”
Did you understand why you fell yesterday?
“We analyzed the data and it became clear that I lost grip on the front because perhaps I entered that S slightly too hard. Today I paid more attention in that point especially in race 2, when the asphalt was more slippery”
A comparison between what happened yesterday and your falls in 2019
“In 2019 everything was different. I always pushed hard and tried to give everyone five seconds in just a few laps. Now I approach races differently, and I am aware of the importance of understanding what my limit is each time, so as not to take risks and not exceed it”
When you overtook Locatelli did you think it was the right time to get ahead of your opponents?
“No, I haven’t thought about it. I only thought about myself, to better understand what conditions the track was in and how much I could push. I overtook Locatelli and at that moment, with the track clear in front, I felt at ease. So I tried to leave and I succeeded. During the race I never think about the championship or my opponents. I just try to focus on what is best to do to win. Nothing else”
