The former Italian selector is expected on Sunday at 11am by the Asd Sampierdarenese for the inauguration of the new “Morgavi” pitch in Belvedere which hosts the matches of the historic “Lupi” team, a team playing in the Ligurian Promotion
Roberto Mancini returns to Genoa for the first time since his resignation as coach of the Italian national team followed closely by his move to lead the Saudi selection. As reported by telenord.it, the occasion, Sunday 1 October at 11am, is the inauguration of the renovated “Mauro Morgavi” sports field in via GB Millelire in Sampierdarena, “den” of the Sampierdarenese Wolves. In the afternoon the Arabia coach – 58 years old, 15 of which spent as a footballer from 1982 to 1997 in the Blucerchiati shirt, winning the seven trophies in Dori’s history so far and becoming the record holder for appearances (567) and goals (171), therefore winning as coach for the 2021 European Championship at the helm of Italy – he could make a move to Marassi, to follow his former team engaged at 4.15 pm against Catanzaro, alongside his son Andrea who is now the sporting director of Doria.
An appointment, that of the “Morgavi”, strongly desired by Roberto Pittaluga, president of the Rossoneri club and, in private, a passionate Sampdoria fan so much so as to personally promote, in recent months when the fate of Sampdoria was still in doubt, the establishment of the the “A mæ Samp” association, aimed at entering the company’s shareholding structure with a minority share to be managed in order to control the owners’ actions. A goal that is still relevant today.
“For some time – explains president Pittaluga – I had been thinking about Mancini for the inauguration of the new Morgavi, when he was still the coach of Italy. But we had never managed to reconcile his commitments with a feasible date, then the events of last summer they certainly complicated things further. But now we have succeeded and having a character like Mancini to welcome the renewal of our pitch is a source of great pride for Sampierdarenese.”
