Cesare Prandelli talked about his return to Florence, between the loneliness he felt and his love for Fiorentina
Cesare Prandelli he gave a long interview to Radio Serie A and also returned to the moment of his resignation from Fiorentina in 2021, telling some previously unpublished details. These are his words:
“When I agreed to return to Fiorentina there was the Covid problem and it was a complicated situation also on a personal level. I took on many problems, perhaps I should have limited myself to being a coach, and as I progressed I realized I was a little alone, there was no consensus on the design. In Sampdoria-Fiorentina when Quagliarella scored I felt an emptiness inside for 4-5 seconds, I ran out of air. I spoke to competent people and they advised me to take a break, I felt the weight of responsibility, a mental torment and a total involvement that made me feel unwell every time I entered the sports centre. We played in Benevento, when Dusan scored 3 goals, but I felt uncomfortable, it continued for a few days and after the match against Milan I decided to take a break. It wasn’t depression. I wasn’t afraid, in fact I slowly became lighter. Many other coaches called me, told me they had tried similar things and advised me to try again in another team, but I liked the idea of finishing in Florence. Fiorentina remained in my heart, at first I struggled to see it again, now I follow it with love but I have never returned to the stadium. It will definitely happen.”
