VALLETTA – Airport workers in Malta panicked on Wednesday (27/9/2023) when a plane taxied to the main runway. Incidents are very dangerous because they can result in serious consequences.
The incident occurred at Malta International Airport. Although the airport could not confirm the specifics of the incident, a spokesperson confirmed that there was an incident involving the plane that occurred at 8 am local time.
Media reported the airport notified the Malta Air and Transport Accident Investigation Bureau-Civil Aviation Directorate following the incident.
Footage shared online showed the Dash 8 turboprop aircraft taxiing from the Medavia taxiway at Safi Aviation Park towards the main airport runway.
Airport employees seemed unable to stop the oncoming plane, but were lucky that the plane stopped on the grass at the edge of the runway.
Reports indicated the plane was about to be towed but officials removed the restraints before the tow bar was attached to it.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
