Nic Cage returns to his old ways with an action comedy that is impossible not to compare to John Wick, and for good reason.
In case you haven’t noticed, Nicolas Cage is a guy who puts out several movies a year; like churros, wow. Many of them are far from being masterpieces of the Seventh Art, but we’ll be damned if The last goal (The Retirement Plan) is not the typical movie we would watch for a laugh.
And The Last Objective turns Nicolas Cage into a kind of white label version of one of the icons of current action cinema: John Wick.

The actor becomes Matt, a former hitman who has been retired for years and living the high life on the beach. When her daughter and his granddaughter become involved in shady affairs with dangerous criminals, they turn to him as a last resort.
Even the looks of Nicolas Cage’s character are reminiscent of John Wick. And the director of The Last Objective, Tim Brownwas greatly inspired by the action saga of Keanu Reeves.
Nic Cage: the retired and worn-out John Wick
In a recent interview with Collider, Tim Brown did not hide his strong inspiration in the films of action directed by Chad Stahelski.
“The only thing I had at the beginning was, what if John Wick became a beach bum and an alcoholic, and just didn’t do anything for 40 years? When he’s 70, would he have any ability? What would it be? That was the premise I started with and then it evolved.
Halfway through the movie, I couldn’t have said how it was going to end, not even remotely. “A lot of people say that the movie is almost unpredictable because it doesn’t follow the classic rhythm of the action genre.”
In addition to Nicolas Cage, The Last Goal features Ashley Greene, Ron Perlman, Ernie Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Joel David Moore, Rick Fox, Lynn Whitfield, Grace Byers y Jordan Johnson-Hinds in its distribution.
Nicolas Cage’s film is already in theaters in the United States, and will soon arrive in Spain.
