Mortal Kombat 1, the latest addition to the iconic fighting game series, is now available on all platforms, but its version for Nintendo Switch has been the subject of several controversies.
Days before its release, a user who got the game early by mistake leaked a lot of information, including the roster of fighters, and advised against the Switch version due to its low quality. However, the leak was removed by Nintendo from all the places where it was published (it happened to us here) due to copyright problems.
After its release, criticism did not stop appearing, the version was being torn apart by critics and players. But far from calming down, the controversy intensified with the launch of the last trailer that showed images of the game on the Nintendo hybrid console, where some users noticed something strange, and accused the video of being misleading advertising because at one point it is shown a Steam achievement and its username. Nintendo removed the trailer after realizing the error, which we can see below:
Error 1 – bottom right
Error 2 – Top left
One user stated: “The trailer does not accurately represent the Switch version.” Another user commented: “Sadly, the Switch version looks and runs much worse than what is shown in this trailer.” Ed Boon, co-creator of the franchise and creative director of NetherRealm Studios, is aware of the situation and promised that the Nintendo Switch version will receive improvements through updates.
“It will certainly receive an update. And many of the concerns that were raised will be addressed. It would have been ideal for us to have released the version we really wanted. But any issues we identify will be on our list and will be fixed,” Boon stated.
It remains to be seen if Warner Bros. Games, NetherRealm Studios, or Nintendo will issue an official statement to address this controversy and provide an explanation. Players are eagerly awaiting future updates that can improve the Mortal Kombat 1 experience on Nintendo Switch.
