Actor Michael Caine (The Dark Knight, The Dead American), 90, reflects on his retirement and his legacy.
Iconic British actor Michael Caine, known for his countless film roles, is contemplating retirement after a film career spanning more than seven decades. At 90 years old, whose filmography includes hits such as The Dark Knight (2008), The Dead American (2002), The Cider House Rules (1999) and Dangerous Seduction (1992), he has left clues about his imminent retirement .
In an interview with TT, Michael Caine shared his thoughts on his future and revealed that he has pretty much stopped acting, saying: “I’m 90 now and I can’t walk properly and all that. “I’m sort of retired now.”
Additionally, the actor reflected on life and mortality, expressing his gratitude for having lived to be 90 years old and having had a life that he considers full and satisfying.
This is how he expressed himself.
“Death could be around the corner at 90 years old. But I’m pretty happy. I’m sitting here writing, doing my thing. I like it. I have two children, three grandchildren and a wife. Eventually everyone will join me. No one is going to say: I’m so sorry you’re going to die, I wish you were like me and didn’t die. Everyone is going to die. At least I lived to be fucking 90 years old. I didn’t die at 9, or 19, or 29. I’m 90 years old and I’ve had the best possible life I could have imagined. The best possible wife and the best possible family. They may not be a family that other people would say is the best possible family, but to me it is the best possible family.”

We will see Michael Caine in The Great Escaper, directed by Oliver Parker and based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British war veteran who escaped from his retirement home in Sussex to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day in France. Despite his retirement, the actor greatly enjoyed working on this film and expressed his enthusiasm for the character of Bernie, which he found “incredible and very well written.”
“I was very happy to do it. I loved the character of Bernie. I thought it was amazing and very well written. With Covid and all that, I hadn’t made a movie in three years, and I thought I was done. And suddenly I did it and had a wonderful time.”
