Today, Riot Games announced that it will be the famous band K-Pop NewJeans to play the 2023 League of Legends World Championship anthem, “GODS”.
The song is signed by the main composers of Riot Games, Sebastien Najand and Alex Seaver of Mako, who together wrote “Legends Never Die”, “RISE”, “Awaken” and various pieces of the Arcane soundtrack. Fans will be able to watch “GODS” on YouTube or listen to the song on all platforms starting October 4th.
Carrie Dunn, Creative Director of Esports at Riot Games, said:
The World Cup anthem is our community’s rallying cry every year, and we’re thrilled to be able to partner with NewJeans to bring this amazing moment to fans. Between the fact that the World Cup will take place in Korea and the very rapid rise of NewJeans, this collaboration seemed written in destiny as a real cultural celebration. “GODS” combines epic and intense production elements with the beautiful vocals of NewJeans, managing to convey the effort and glory that awaits our players at the World Cup. When we heard the song for the first time, we all felt very excited,” said NewJeans. “It was a different song from all the ones we had recorded to date, and this made us feel particularly emotional during the recording sessions! Through this extraordinary opportunity, we were able to express and discover a new side of our voices. Singing the World Cup anthem for such a world-famous game was an honor. We hope it makes you all feel a new sense of inner strength! Happy listening!”
Maria Egan, Global Head of Music and Events at Riot Games Entertainment, added:
We are honored to collaborate with NewJeans for the 2023 World Cup, a historic turning point for the group and also very important for eSports fans, who will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the World Cup anthems with us. NewJeans join the ranks of superstars like Imagine Dragons, Zedd and Lil Nas
The music video of the 2023 World Cup will trace the story of Korean professional player Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyustarting from his encounter with League of Legends in high school to his incredible adventure at the 2022 World Cup. This is not simply the personal story of Deft and his indomitable spirit: it is the story of a team that became World Champions against all odds .
