NEW YORK – Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia Sergei Lavrov, lashed out United States of America (US) and Western countries, portraying him as a self-serving defender of the order.
He expressed this during his speech at the UN General Assembly.
“The US and its subordinate groups in the West continue to fuel conflict, artificially dividing humanity into mutually hostile blocs and hindering the achievement of overall goals,” he said.
“They are doing everything they can to prevent the establishment of a truly multipolar world order,” he continued.
“They are trying to force the world to play according to their selfish rules,” he said as quoted by Sky News, Sunday (24/9/2023).
Lavrov also said Ukraine’s proposed peace plan as well as the UN’s latest proposal to revive the Black Sea grain supply initiative were “unrealistic”.
“This is absolutely impossible,” Lavrov said of the 10-point peace blueprint Kiev is promoting.
“This is impossible to implement. It is unrealistic and everyone understands this, but at the same time, they say this is the only basis for negotiations,” he said.
Lavrov was speaking after a week of intense global diplomacy at the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy – who attended in person – and Western allies sought to increase support for Kyiv. Lavrov said he met with more than 30 countries during the week.
