If you are familiar with the business world, then you have undoubtedly heard of LCVs – the light commercial vehicles. These are the vans large and small that are currently driving around on our roads. However, PBVs are seen as their successors. These are Purpose Built Vehicles. Or in Dutch: custom-made vehicles. Kia is currently building a factory that can produce PBVs. Basically, it is an electric platform that is highly modular. Not only in terms of power and battery, but also in terms of bodywork and interior.
The result should be a kind of moving cocoon in different sizes. Small ones for, say, the postal service in your neighborhood and larger ones for the plumber who has something to carry around. Kia wants to market these modular commercial vehicles in Belgium as early as 2024. Will this make the street scene worse?
