Joe Jordan, former player of Milan and Hellas, spoke about the match scheduled for tomorrow at San Siro, interviewed by the “Corriere di Verona”.
The Scottish striker, who played for Rossoneri from 1981 to 1983 and for Gialloblù in the 1983-84 season, said: “What match do I expect? With a very determined AC Milan, after the heavy defeat in the derby against Inter and the draw in the Champions League League against Newcastle. Both were results that penalized him: on the one hand, the deficit was too heavy. The more correct outcome would have been a 3-1, not the final 5-1. On the other, a victory that should have be clear, but the many missed opportunities blocked the match at 0-0”.
Then: “The greatest memory that binds me to Verona? I didn’t just find teammates then: I met friends who remained forever. Ours was a locker room made up of men with exceptional values, guided by an extraordinary coach, Osvaldo Bagnoli. We all went out together, me with my wife and children, we went out to eat. Verona was a group that was always united.”
The center forward continues: “I know that Verona was exciting and it was wonderful to be part of it, to experience that moment. Just forty years ago we won 3-2 in Belgrade, in the UEFA Cup, with Red Star. I was on the bench, in Belgrade. Beppe Galderisi scored two goals and came to hug me. In that stadium, in front of 85,000 spectators, in that match, Verona became aware of themselves. In 1985, I had left, they won the scudetto. I’m proud to have helped.”
Jordan closes: “A prediction for the match? I have been in the world of football for more than fifty years. I have learned one thing among many: that when you play nothing is ever certain. Think of Verona going to San Siro with Milan, which is very strong, which has champions like Giroud and Leão, and many believe that the forecast is closed. This is not the case. Everything is possible.”
