Leao’s goal aside, Inzaghi’s bunker has so far proved impregnable, both in the formula composed of the Darmian-De Vrij-Bastoni trio and in the variants that include Acerbi and Pavard
27 September – MILAN
Just one goal conceded in five championship days. The data says a lot about the solidity of the Nerazzurri’s defensive package and also helps to explain the solitary lead in the standings for Inzaghi’s team. But it takes on even more importance when compared with the numbers of the other main continental leagues, because no one so far has been able to guarantee a better defensive performance than that of Inter. Not even Manchester City, victorious a few months ago in Istanbul, who conceded two more goals than the Nerazzurri. Inzaghi’s bunker has so far proved to be almost impregnable, both in the formula composed of the Darmian-De Vrij-Bastoni trio (used in the first three days of the championship) and in the variations that include Acerbi and Pavard. The only flaw was Leao’s goal which momentarily reopened the derby for a few minutes, then only a clean sheet.
TOP DEFENSE
—
The Nerazzurri defense is currently at the top in Europe in almost all main indicators. If in the Premier League the best defense is that of City (with three goals conceded), Bundesliga leaders Bayern have four, while Barça and Brest lead the Liga and Ligue1 respectively with eight and six goals conceded. In general, even scrolling through all the rankings, there is no team among France, Spain, Germany, England and Italy that boasts just one one for goals conceded like Inter. Not only that, making a comparison with the first five days of the other top tournaments, Sommer’s is also the goal that has remained missed the most times (four) compared to Barça’s three and City’s two. To then describe the goodness and effectiveness of Inzaghi’s back pack there is the data referring to the shots conceded: just nine those on target, less than any other team in Europe with an average of not even two shots allowed per game . Only City and Bayern, who have conceded eleven and twelve shots on target respectively, bring the solidity of the Nerazzurri defense closer to the leaders of the main European leagues.

THE TARGET
—
In this sense, the match against Sassuolo will be a challenge not to be taken lightly for Inzaghi’s team and the defense in particular, not only for the four goals scored by the Dionisi gang against Juve a few days ago. Despite the recent favorable tradition which has seen the Nerazzurri defeated only once in the last nine occasions, the Emilians have scored in the last five clashes. The last time Inter managed to keep a clean sheet against the Neroverdi dates back to 28 February 2020, when they finished 3-0 thanks to goals from Sanchez, Gagliardini and Chiriches (own goal). To avoid bad jokes this time too, the Nerazzurri bunker will need to keep their concentration high, so as to interrupt the Emilian scoring streak and pave the way for another three points which would be worth confirming the solitary record.
