A smartwatch that looks great
If a smartwatch considered entry-level achieves an appearance noticeably superior to what its price tag indicates, this is excellent news.
He Honor Watch 4 It’s just that kind of advanced watch. At first glance it is difficult to say that it has a price of just over 150 euros. And this Honor smartwatch has a very careful design visually but also to the touch.
Single button and speaker
Not in vain does it have a high-level finish in aluminum (series 6) and an overall appearance with its square but excellently finished dial that allows it stand aesthetically above rivals similar in specifications but somewhat lower price as is the Redmi Watch 3.
The Honor Watch 4 is also very comfortable to wear. It weighs only 32 grams without strap and its dimensions are perfect for everyday use, with a good balance between screen size, frames and general dimensions of the device.
The Honor Watch 4 is very comfortable to wear thanks to its silicone strap and its light weight.
The physical controls are limited to a simple button on the right side, which gives us access to the main menu of the terminal. This menu supports several display modes, from a list that comes by default to a column layout or even a grid layout (in true Apple Watch style).
To move through the menus and options of the Honor Watch 4 we have to go directly to the screen, with easy, intuitive and very precise handling in both touches and movements on the glass.
The strap, essential in a device that we are intended to always wear and also use as a companion in our sporting activities, is made of silicone and available in two colors, “gold” and black. They are perhaps too basic and we will want to look for something more color.
The double closing buckle protects the excess strap so that it never gets caught on us
We can do it when compatible 21.5 mm straps appear because the fastening system with the watch is not the usual one but it is perfectly integrated with the aluminum case, which again gives it an extra good appearance.
In our test the strap has shown quite comfortablewithout discomfort of any kind and after the first few days it becomes more manageable.
The closure of the one that comes standard is secure, it is based on a classic buckle system and it is quite quick to put on and take off the strap. I especially like that in this buckle system, instead of the classic ring to hold the excess of the strap, we have a system that leaves it under the strap, leaving the appearance clean and without the risk of snagging on clothing or breaking the strap. fixation System.
The Honor Watch 4 offers waterproof which allows us to submerge it up to 5 ATM, basic data for pool-type scenarios for which this device has been designed.
Bright AMOLED display
The main element of a smartwatch is clearly the screen. And here the Honor Watch 4 It has pleasantly surprised us.
The screen of the Honor Watch 4 offers a diagonal of 1.75 inches, in line with most rivals on the market in its range. With AMOLED technology, its 60 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 390×450 pixels (340 ppp), form a winning combination at the level of visual experience despite the obvious frame that surrounds the panel but is generally hidden from view.
In addition to a good size and resolution, the Honor Watch 4 boasts a very practical automatic brightness
The screen looks perfectly sharp, it is bright and there are no excessive problems outdoors. The automatic brightness it has is reliable and fast in our test unit, but if we prefer, we can also configure it as fixed with 5 intensity levels to choose from. We can also choose other operating modes such as the waiting time for sleep, from automatic to 5-second steps, or the time we want the screen to remain active by default.
Las spheres There are about 10 available as standard but in total there is the option to choose from 300; but the manufacturer tries to expand them with more. The basic ones are practical and attractive enough for the vast majority of users. Of course, do not expect to be able to customize any element of that interface, which, however, are active in the sense that By clicking on them we access the serviceapplication or item directly.
We can choose to always choose the screen to be active or to have it appear when we raise our hand. It is also activated with the side button but not with two taps on the screen.
Speaker and microphone for calls and music
One of the great attractions of this Honor Watch 4 is hidden on the side. There we have a microphone and speaker that allows us make and receive calls with a sound that we found quite clear and loud both for listening and for communicating with our interlocutor.
These calls are made via Bluetooth 5.2, so we need to have the associated phone nearby. We also have 4 GB internal memory to store music (only on Android) but we cannot install more applications than those that come by default from Honor. We also do not have NFCone of the differences with the version available in the Asian market.
Regarding notifications, we can configure which applications we want to receive them from but they will only be notifications as such and we will not be able to respondjust remove them from the watch screen.
The Honor Watch 4 is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, but we have more options available on Android models. In the case of iOS we have seen regular connection losses with the phone that forced us to reconnect the Honor Watch 4 by hand. The Bluetooth range could also improve since in our tests it is somewhat below other rivals.
Exercise and sleep under the magnifying glass
At the bottom of the Honor Watch 4 We have sensors designed to record data 24 hours a day. It is a system of optical microlenses capable of mainly recording the heart rate and support other data such as blood oxygen status, stress or sleep.
Of all these measurements, it is advisable to stay almost exclusively with the heart rate, which in our comparison with sports watches has proven to be reliable with a margin of error of less than 5 heartbeats on average, although it does have room for improvement in response to rapid changes of heart rate.
The rest of the sports parameters are sufficiently precise for the use of the watch, which is not intended for those who exercise seriously and regularly and need activity data without margin of error.
We have an example in the GPS. It takes a few seconds from when we go outside to start up and while it does so there is no record of the activity, we must take this into account. As for precision, it can be greatly improved in the city.
I usually walk without “randomly” crossing sidewalks or crossing buildings
Refering to automatic sleep detection, is completely correct with waking hours, correctly separating between night sleep and naps. The data is then added to the corresponding section of the Honor Health app.
The Honor application brings together a lot of information, in some cases with sufficient depth and data. This is the case of basic sports activities such as strength, walking, running (even on a treadmill) or cycling. There is general information such as that related to our cardiovascular health but also details of each activity that depends on the type of exercise but usually includes average speed, stride frequency, work zones or rhythm.
When starting an activity we can choose between doing it freely or based on a time/distance objective as well as following one of the exercise plans that the watch includes. We liked that in the information screens for some exercises, such as running or walking, we can customize the type of data we want to have on each screen.
We can customize the information on the screen for some exercises
He Honor Watch 4 It has a 451 mAh battery capable of lasting on paper for almost two weeks of use. In practice and given that we surely want to get the most out of the watch, from calls to data recording and activity, it is better to have an average of 6-7 days of effective autonomy if you are an active watch user. Users who are more relaxed in using the Honor Watch 4 could approach 9-10 days.
Charging requires a proprietary charger with a USB-A connector that has magnetic contacts for charging. In just under two hours the Honor Watch 4 is ready to give it your all again for More than a week.
Honor Watch 4, Xataka’s opinion and note
Whether to record the activities we carry out daily or to be aware of mobile phone notifications, the smartwatch It is a faithful companion of many users.
He Honor Watch 4 It shows that you can have a very careful and well-finished image without giving up an attractive price. It is its great differentiating element with rivals, which tighten in terms of price and specifications.
The internal memory and good quality calls They complement a behavior that, however, is penalized by the somewhat poor autonomy if we use it a lot or the precision of its sensors if you are looking for a serious exercise companion.
