Christian Horner has not forgotten Toto Wolff’s Wikipedia reference and is trolling the Mercedes boss.
Of course, we all remember that Max Verstappen set a real record during the Italian Grand Prix by winning his tenth race in a row. A major achievement that was widely praised. Especially if you wear orange glasses.
Now, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is not necessarily known as a good loser and despite the fact that he has also said positive things about “our” Max lately, he made an old-fashioned sneer about that special record.
Because, Toto said, such a record is actually more something for Wikipedia and doesn’t mean much. Nobody reads that anymore. In addition, Mercedes has never managed to achieve such a series because the Mercedes drivers are simply more evenly matched. In other words, Sergio Perez is not good enough. Dixit Toto.
Horner is as proud as a peacock
In the run-up to the Formula 1 race in Japan this weekend, Red Bull boss Christian Horner returned to Toto’s comment in a roundabout way. He was asked about the remarkable rise and success of Red Bull Racing in Formula 1.
Nineteen seasons ago, Dietrich Mateschitz bought the Jaguar F1 team to conquer Formula 1 with Red Bull. That Jaguar team was pretty much in seventh place at the finish (according to Horner). This weekend, however, Red Bull can win its sixth constructors’ title.
No one could have dreamed that the team would get this far. A huge phenomenal journey. But Horner also says he prefers to look forward rather than back.
Christian Horner over Wikipedia
If Red Bull wins the constructors’ title and the world title with Max Verstappen in the coming races, that will be another great achievement. And, Christian Horner adds with some sense of humor, that is a nice addition to Wikipedia, even though no one looks at it anymore these days. It’s a huge achievement for the books.
We’ll see how far they get in Japan this weekend. In any case, things looked good for Red Bull Racing in both the first and second free practice.
