MOSCOW – Security measures were increased at the grave of the former head of the private military company Wagner, Evgeny Prigozhin.
This news was revealed by a cemetery worker to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.
According to reports on Wednesday (20/9/2023), a guard post and CCTV cameras had been installed after a violin was stolen from the burial site at the Prokhorovskoe cemetery in St Petersburg.
The violin is one of the symbols of the Wagner Group whose fighters were nicknamed ‘Musicians’ because Wagner’s name is the same as the German classical composer Richard Wagner.
“A violin and a sledgehammer, other symbols of Wagner, appeared at Prigozhin’s grave a few days after his funeral on August 29,” the cemetery worker recalled.
However, he claimed the “expensive” looking musical instrument had been “stolen” the following day.
According to the worker, at the time of the incident a cyclist was seen “going away” from the location, but the perpetrator had not been found.
“After that, CCTV cameras and guard posts were installed at Prigozhin’s grave,” said the worker. “Now there is a security guard on duty there 24/7.”
The worker said, based on his understanding, the action had been arranged by Wagner members, who received approval from the cemetery administration.
