Redundancy pay?
Ministers, state secretaries, MPs, but also mayors and councilors are entitled to redundancy pay as soon as they leave their position. The redundancy pay – a benefit – is a percentage of the salary they received as a politician. Even in the event of voluntary departure, the person is entitled to redundancy pay. The scheme was introduced because work in politics is seen as unpredictable, which could cause someone to lose their job.
