At least six people have died due to heavy rains in Guatemala. Another 12 are missing. Among them there are also several children. In Guatemala City, the country’s capital, during the night between Sunday and Monday a stream swollen by heavy rains had broken a blockage formed by debris and waste that had accumulated on the river bed. The flood that was generated swept away some houses in a shantytown on the outskirts of the city. Local authorities said residents in the area had been repeatedly warned to move because of the risk posed by floods.
