KUALA LUMPUR – Violence and exploitation of household assistants (ART) continues to occur in Malaysia. This time it was experienced by a domestic worker from North Sumatra who just called her name “Lina” (not her real name).
According to “Lina”‘s confession to Ambassador Hermono, who was directly handling the case, she started working for her employer since September 2020, always experiencing violence and suffering serious injuries.
Not only that, Lina also experienced sexual exploitation by her employer who was a fisherman in the Kuala Selangor area.
According to Lina’s confession to Ambassador Hermono, it was not only her employer who tortured her, but also her employer’s friends for no apparent reason.
“I always feel afraid every time someone comes to the employer’s house because they will definitely be beaten,” Lina complained to Ambassador Hermono.
Not only was she physically abused for nearly 3 years, Lina also only received a salary of RM900 once. Sometimes she is even forced to go out to sea to catch fish besides doing household chores.
With tears in her eyes, Lina said that at least she had run away from her employer’s house 4 times, but was always found by her employer and forced to return to work.
It even happened that in a bloodied condition, a neighbor reported it to the local police, but the police officers who met him returned it to the employer.
“I really despaired of how to save myself from torture from the depraved behavior of the employer,” said Lina to Ambassador Hermono with tears in her eyes.
