It is not news to anyone that the price of the Apple Vision Pro is quite high and compared to other devices like the Meta Quest 3, this is a better option because it is cheaper.
Meta recently announced its Quest 3 headphones, which cost a lot less than Apple’s iteration. However, it’s safe to speculate that Apple’s AR-powered headphones are nothing short of a blast at this stage.
Mark Zuckerberg said the Vision Pro announcement “really shows the difference in values and vision that our companies bring to this.” He further said that Meta’s Quest 3 costs $499 while Quest Pro costs $999 and that the product is accessible to everyone.
The Apple Vision Pro, on the other hand, is priced much higher at $3,499. According to Zuckerberg, Apple’s headphones isolate an individual instead of making people more sociable. One of the biggest differences between the two headsets is that Apple’s vision for headsets emphasizes computing rather than just the “social” aspect. You can check out Zuckerberg’s comments on The Verge.
From what I’ve seen initially, I’d say the good news is that there isn’t any kind of silver bullet that they have for any of the limitations of law and physics that our teams haven’t explored and thought about yet. They went with a higher resolution screen, and between that and all the technology they put in there to power it, it costs seven times as much and now requires so much power that you now need a battery and a cable attached to use it. They made that design compromise and it might make sense for the cases they are looking for.
Meta and Apple have similar products, but the use case may vary. One focuses on improving computer skills and the other contributes to the social aspect in terms of games and entertainment.
Apple is working to expand the utility of its Vision Pro headset. Since the headset is due to go on sale early next year, leave it to Apple and developers to play with the new hardware and design the right apps.
