There are those who believe that we are at the gates of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. And also, those who think differently or are more skeptical about the capabilities of this discipline and its impact on society. Although there are different points of view about what could be happening, there is one thing that cannot be denied: AI-based tools are becoming more and more.
The banner of the algorithmic world we live in seems to be in the hands of generative AI, the umbrella that brings together apps like ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and Bard. But the proposals of OpenAI, Microsoft and Google are not the only ones on the market. Whether through APIs from popular models or through their own work, many companies are embracing AI in their services.
WordPress says ‘hello’ to generative AI
A few months ago we learned that Canva, the popular online creation app, had launched a GPT-3-based writing assistant for Cava Docs. Now it is the turn of WordPress. The company, which claims to be behind 43% of the websites, just adopted Jetpack AI Assistanta writing assistant that comes as a plugin for your platform.
Although it has not been specified which model gives life to this tool, many details about its characteristics and operation have been released. Jetpack AI Assistant integrates into the WordPress editor and promises to summarize text, generate headlines, translate in more than 12 languages, and do spell checking. Plus, they explain, it can generate entire blog posts.
Automattic, the creator of the plugin, gives the following prompt as an example: “Write a list of must-see destinations in Tokyo and give me a table with exchange rates from JPY to USD and Euro”. The system takes care of create a blog post with the instructions given, and even allows you to adapt the writing style between funny, informative or enthusiastic.
The company explains that Jetpack AI Assistant is available for free to WordPress.com users with Jetpack updated to its latest version “for a limited time.” Of course, when you start using the tool, you can only make 20 requests at no cost. After that, if you want to continue using the tool, you will have to pay a subscription of $10 per month.
As we mentioned above, the market for generative artificial intelligence tools is on the rise, as well as its adoption, which can help many people, although not always with favorable results. BuzzFeed started using ChatGPT to generate content. CNET did a similar experiment, though some of their articles were published with errors and their experience ended up receiving negative ratings.
The use of this type of tools has also become the epicenter of a new debate. Although AI models boast very powerful and promising qualities, they still have numerous problems. They can generate misinformation (remember the case of the lawyer who claimed to have used ChatGPT and was accused of including “false quotes” in a legal document).
On the other hand, since they have been trained with datasets with information from the Internet and other sources, they can reproduce social biases and provide answers that go against the ethical principles of society. For these reasons, added to the ease of accessing generative tools, some fear that the web will begin to be flooded with false and low-quality content.
