The Astronauts, creators of the critically acclaimed The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, partner with Epic Games on this spectacular first-person shooter, coming this September.
We have had a great time with the opening ceremony of the Summer Game Fest, an event presented by Geoff Keighley that has left us with a few bomb announcements, including small surprises such as Witchfire.
Actually, it is not the first time that we see the new of The Astronauts (The Vanishing of Ethan Carter) in action. But it has gone deeper into its gameplay, very DOOM.
Witchfire looks outrageous. It’s hard to believe that a small study of just ten people is capable of doing something like this, squeezing the power of Unreal Engine. Of course, it must be said that they have the help of Epic Games.
What would happen if we mixed DOOM with games like Bloodborne, The Witcher or Evil West? The result is Witchfire, a fast-paced first-person shooter with roguelite elements.
Best of all, we already know when Witchfire is released, which, for now, It has only been announced for PC (as an Epic Games Store exclusive).
Witchcraft, dark fantasy and shots at close range
Witchfire es a dark fantasy shooterdeveloped by The Astronauts (creators of the acclaimed The Vanishing of Ethan Carter), and which includes former game developers such as Bulletstorm or Painkiller.
Witchfire’s world is complete madness. In this dark universe, the Church and the witches are at war, and only the ”preyer” (The Preacher) you will be able to exterminate these demonic creatures.
With the help of the Vatican and its enigmatic artifacts, the protagonist will unleash destruction among the witches, using all kinds of firearms and heavenly abilities… which we rather classify as forbidden magic.
It looks brutal. Witchfire is very similar to DOOM (the new id Software games), but it manages to convey its own identity thanks to the delicious artistic section.
The Astronauts has confirmed that Witchfire will be released next September 20, 2023in early access, and as Epic Games Store exclusive. At the moment no versions for consoles have been announced.
Mindful of these statements Adrian Chmielarz, Creative Director and Co-Founder of The Astronauts:
”I don’t care if the game is story-focused or mechanic-focused, I need its world to feel like a real place. So while Witchfire is obviously a shooter, we invested heavily in its world and its story. I think this improves the experience even for people who say they don’t care about game stories at all.”
Everything indicates that Witchfire is focused on a single player experience, since its creators have invested a lot of time and effort in creating an interesting lore.
Although action is a determining point of Witchfire, from the study they assure that not everything will be “shoot and advance”. In that sense, it will be further from DOOM than it seems.
Why release it in early access? Witchfire will not see its final version in September, but players will be able to try it, as The Astronauts and Epic apply new content, technical improvements and other features.
It is the most interesting thing that this has left us Summer Game Fest, There’s no doubt. Witchfire will arrive at the Epic Games Store (PC) on September 20, in early access, and soon we will have more details about this overwhelming shooter from The Astronauts.
