With a second season already on the horizon, it is easy to think that a third is feasible. However, it seems that it will be best to moderate expectations to avoid disappointment.
Season 1 of the HBO television show ended in mid-March with an episode that adapted the ending of the first video game. Since then, much has been said about what will follow for the story and the characters.
It seems that the second season will chronicle the events of The Last of Us: Part II. Of course, the producers Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin commented a few months ago that the story of said video game is very extensive, so they hinted that they might need more than one season to adapt it correctly.

What happens is that the fate of The Last of Us live action show is uncertain, since Season 3 is not yet on the cards and it is unknown if it will ever enter the production phase. This was stated by Francesca Orsi, executive in charge of HBO’s dramatic series.
In a chat with Deadline (via ComicBook), Francesca Orsi confirmed that Season 2 is on hiatus due to the ongoing writers’ strike in the United States. Thus, it is expected that the premiere of the second wave of episodes will take place at some point in 2025.

On the other hand, the HBO executive confirmed that, at this time, Season 3 of the TV show is not a guarantee.
“I think Craig and Neil are still thinking about the ending. We vaguely hear that there will be a third season idea for the series, but right now, we’re taking one season at a time. At this moment there is no guarantee that we will have a third, but I know that they both have a vision for Season 3. I do not know if that lends itself to doing more (seasons) ”, indicated Francesca Orsi.
