The program Today does not circulate It is designed to control and reduce polluting emissions in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM) produced by vehicles. The means to achieve this, promoted by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA), is to reduce the volume of cars that move through restricted spaces.
Specifically, Hoy No Circula controls all the cars that move through the ZMVM, regardless of the origin of the license plates or the car’s registration. To be exact, the program covers the 16 mayoralties of Mexico City and the following municipalities from the State of Mexico:
Atizapán de Zaragoza Coacalco de Berriozábal Cuautitlán Cuautitlán Izcalli Chalco Chicoloapan Chimalhuacán Ecatepec de Morelos Huixquilucan Ixtapaluca La Paz Naucalpan de Juárez Nezahualcóyotl Nicolás Romero Tecámac Tlalnepantla de Baz Tultitlán Valle de Chalco
What cars and license plates does the Today Does Not Circulate on Saturdays affect?
With the aim of reducing polluting emissions, Hoy No Circula prevents vehicles from circulating at least one day a week. These restrictions are applied according to the calendar and regardless of the origin of the registration. Affected cars cannot move from the 05:00 to 22:00 one day a week and two Saturdays a month.
On Saturday, the restrictions are rotating. In this case, on Saturday, June 10, vehicles with hologram 2 (they rest every Saturday) or those with hologram 1 with a license plate ending in an even number will not be able to circulate, since it is the second Saturday of May.
Despite this, the following are also contemplated exceptions:
Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrid Those with a 0 and 00 hologram Those with a plate for the disabled All those dedicated to urban transportation services (including funeral services) Those that offer school or passenger transportation Those for public safety and/or civil protection
Regarding the fine for breaching these restrictions, this will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (ONE), equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos And till 2,886.60 pesos.
