Recently Melissa Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter in the latest installments of Scream, has addressed the possible next film in the franchise and how its plot could affect the dark past of her character.
To the saga of terror from Scream has passed the baton to a new generation of young protagonists from his fifth film, a role that has grown considerably in Scream VI by not having Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott (although veteran Courteney Cox is still present in the role of Gale Weathers).
Although there is still nothing confirmed one hundred percent, it is to be expected that Paramount Pictures wants to continue taking advantage of the saga and launch a seventh installment of the franchise with more lunatics putting on the mask of Ghostfaceespecially considering the good reception that the last films have had.
What can we expect in the next Scream movie?
One of the main claims of this “requel” is the fact that its protagonist, Sam Carpenter, is actually the daughter of Billy Loomis, the “original” killer in the first Scream movie. To make matters worse, Sam has hallucinations with her father and from time to time homicidal instincts jump out at him.
It is true that at the end of Scream VI (beware, they are coming SPOILERS) we see Sam pick up the Ghostface mask and look at it carefully before throwing it away, hinting that Sam is not going to follow in the same footsteps as his father.
However, it is possible that this theme will continue to be touched on in the next film and give us the twist that many fans, curiously, have been waiting for since Scream 2: that the murderer under the mask of Ghostface is his own protagonist (Some are even still holding out hope to see Sidney Prescott unleash his murderous madness in future installments of the franchise.)

In a recent interview for Digital Spy, Melissa Barrera, actress who plays Sam Carpenter in the saga, He addressed the possibility of a Scream 7 and that the dark side of his character continue to deepen in the new film.
“There are so many places that Sam could go. That’s one of the reasons why, when I read the script for Scream 5, I was so interested in the character. There’s so much potential here for where he could go with his mental health: it’s just unpredictable I find that darkness in her makes her so much more interesting to watch and play with.
She’s the hero, but she’s also kind of a villain. It’s this contradiction in her that I find fascinating, and if we ever do another one, I’d love to see it.. The writers have done a really good job with her up to this point, so I’m confident they’ll know where to take her (in a way) that’s unexpected and great for the fans.”
At the moment there is still no official news of a Scream 7, so we will have to wait for Paramount Pictures to give the green light to the project. Do you want to see a new movie in the saga? Do you think we will see Sam put on the Ghostface mask? Tell us in our comments section.
