The literary saga of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, written by Rick Riordan, will receive an adaptation for Disney Plus next year in series format. Its first season will have a total of eight episodes and will be based on the first book of the saga: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

Why Rick Riordan decides to adapt his own literary work for television
Rick Riordan was not too involved in the adaptation of those films of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and the final result did not finish convincing him either. However now, for Disney Plushas been commissioned to make an adaptation with which he is really satisfied.
Rick Riordan explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that when he sold the rights to the Film adaptationhe assumed that his relationship with the adaptation of his work had already ended, “we had tried it and it had not worked.”

But then Disney was done with Foxthe producer of the films, causing a new opportunity to arise: “We had doubts about it, I had not had the best experience. Not an industry I know of or have wanted to be a part of”.
“Becoming a producer is not something I ever dreamed of (laughs). I am perfectly happy writing books. But I knew that fans of the books really wanted a good adaptation., another try. So it was really for them,” added Rick Riordan, who has barely worked on anything else “for the last three years.”
The First season from Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney Plus in the first quarter of 2024.
