The console and video game sales report in Europe during May 2023 was published by Gamesindustry.biz confirming that the top in both sectors was for Nintendo. Initially, the hybrid console took the first place of PS5 by storm thanks to the increase in its sales related to the premiere of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. At a comparative level, Switch registered a 39% increase in sales compared to May 2022.
For its part, PS5 registered an increase of 81% compared to May 2022 but still could not maintain first place in the face of the sudden rise of Nintendo. Unfortunately, in the case of Xbox Series X | S, the bad news continues as the consoles experience a 16% drop in sales compared to the same month in 2022.

In terms of video game sales, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was king in Europe during May. In this sense, the Switch game was the great driver of the sector since, thanks to its sales, there was a 33% increase in software sales. In the same way, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is already the third best-selling game in Europe so far this year and already rubs shoulders with the greats like Hogwarts Legacy and FIFA 23.
In case you missed it: Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is still on top and surpasses Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Likewise, the report ventures into considering that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could already be the best-selling game in Europe so far this year since its market positions are accounted for only with physical copies since Nintendo does not share data on digital sales. So, if it were possible to add the digital copies of Link’s recent adventure, it could be considered the best-selling game on the continent so far in 2023.
