WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden tripped and fell while handing out diplomas at the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony United States of America (AS) of Colorado.
Biden, who is the oldest US president at 80 years, was helped back to his feet and appeared to be unharmed.
The US president had stood for about an hour and a half to shake hands with the 921 graduating US Air Force cadets.
The White House communications director said he was fine.
“There were sandbags on stage when he shook hands,” Ben LaBolt wrote on Twitter after the incident.
A White House press report earlier said that Biden tripped over a black sandbag while walking on stage.
Footage of the incident shows Biden appearing to point to one of the two sandbags used to support his teleprompter as he is helped to his feet by an Air Force official and two members of his secret service.
He was seen walking back to his seat unaided and then running back to his motorcade as the ceremony ended shortly after the accident.
Biden did not answer questions as he returned to his plane.
