The initiative, also promoted by the international association IMMA and by ANCMA itself, was born to avoid divergent and ineffective interpretations of the anti-tampering rules for silencers and clarifies the technical requirements to guarantee the robustness of the fastening solutions of the baffles, silencers and dB-killers, in order to prevent their easy removal. As anticipated, the work was also supported by the main companies in the sector (Akrapovic, Arrow, Giannelli, The Lafrancons, Leo Vince, MIVV e SC project) and, thanks to the contribution of the national trade associations, it now sets itself the goal of sensitizing motorcyclists, authorities and other exhaust system manufacturers.
Satisfied with the initiative, the Secretary General of ACEM Antonio Perlot who, in a note, underlined the desire to “bring together the skills of recognized players in the motorcycle sector and address one of the main causes of motorcycle noise on the streets. Today, there are still approved silencers on the market with too easily removable baffles or dB-killers, which can lead to unacceptable noise levels. By proposing state-of-the-art solutions, the guidelines will help type-approval authorities to achieve a more harmonized assessment of compliance with anti-tampering standards for exhaust silencers. The invitation is now to all interested parties to apply them without delay”.
The president of ANCMA Paolo Magri stated that: “In the responsible and choral commitment of our associates and the reference industry there is a lot of Italian know-how and manufacturing excellence. We are facing a concrete signal which, in addition to transposing and interpreting the legislation correctly, also goes in the direction of protecting the quality of this sector and overcoming some prejudices linked to motorcycles. And then it constitutes a very clear message also for enthusiasts and manufacturers of exhausts that could potentially be placed outside the regulatory context”.
