Pre-orders and reservations for Final Fantasy 16 on PS5 would not be very different from those of Final Fantasy 15 and they are even somewhat behind, something that makes the Japanese developer “slightly panicked”.
Sony y Square Enix details are finalized to launch Final Fantasy 16 in exclusive for PS5, although it was also going to come out on PS4. Now, the developer would be concerned because the reservations of the game are behind those that Final Fantasy 15 had.
The game has already been seen and tested by the media before and in both previews everyone left wanting more: “it’s going to be one of the best games of the year”, we wrote in February.
However, rumors begin to emerge that Square Enix is concerned about the booking figures not being what they expected and despite the aggressive marketing campaign by Naoki Yoshida as its producer and of the study per se.
And even despite the board’s travels around the world, the mountain of artwork that has been shared and the expectation of fans doesn’t seem to be enough for the company.
In an article published on Patreon -as we read in Push Square-, the journalist Imran Khan has revealed what he has heard behind the scenes of the Japanese developer:
“I’ve recently heard that Square Enix is a bit scared by the pre-order numbers for Final Fantasy XVI, which lags behind Final Fantasy XV and even taking into account the smaller number of launch platforms.”
Although before this message, Khan himself stressed that reservations are only an indication of sales at launch and that the “real figure could surprise everyone.”

This has come after two updates of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in RRSS: “I wonder if they want to remind people that the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy exists and give it more marketing than planned,” Khan continued.
“Initial sales of the Remake were pretty good, but they slowed down faster than Square Enix expected. So I imagine they want to see as many sales of Rebirth as possible.”
And besides, this occurs after a yoshida interview with the Japanese online show Weekly Ochiai, where he joked that he “didn’t want to see FFXVI sales for the first week”.
He was speaking specifically of the Japanese market, adding that he had “drawn up an 18-month sales plan.” As translated on Reddit: “I’ve made a simple approach to try to get the store to convince players to buy a Final Fantasy 16 with their PS5.”

The future demo that has already been leaked may have a big impact along with its reviews, but keep in mind that it comes after the shadow of Tears of the Kingdom and the same month as Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4.
Square Enix bets on a great growth of the saga outside of Japan and trusts the Sony PlayStation marketing forcebut it will be interesting to see if it meets the expectations as launch exclusive.
It is clear that it is more violent and explicit for the needs of the plot and for this reason it is part of the 10 best releases and games of June.
Is it true that Square Enix is ”somewhat afraid” of Final Fantasy 16 reservations on PS5 and that they are behind those of Final Fantasy XV?
