After the Observatory’s intervention, the venue for the playoffs changed: no longer the Dacia Arena, but the Mapei Stadium. The risk of accidents is great and the capacity will be limited
Spezia-Verona will be played on Sunday at 20.45 at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia. No Dacia Arena in Udine, as the League had also informed the two companies last night, after a day of talks that also involved the Interior Ministry. The play-off for safety is a high-risk game that will be handled with great attention from the point of view of public order. For the moment, the stadium’s capacity (21,000) will be reduced and 4,000 seats will be reserved in the Curva Sud for Verona fans and the same number in the Curva Nord for Spezia supporters. In the next few hours it will be decided, after having heard the city authorities and the police, whether to open the grandstands or at least a part of them. Only holders of the fan card residing in Liguria and Veneto will be admitted. The gates will be opened well in advance, ad hoc routes will be arranged to avoid contact between opposing fans and the Interior Ministry will increase the number of police forces in support of the Reggio Emilia Police Headquarters.
Not Florence, Lecce… ditto
—
Since yesterday, the first choice made by the Lega Council, through a council resolution, was to play in Reggio Emilia and subordinately in Udine where the commissioner, the prefect and Udinese had given the ok to the organization of the event. Florence and Lecce were also in the running for the organization as early as last week, but Franchi had been rejected because on Sunday in the area there will be Calcio Fiorentina and the Mugello GP, while the via del Mare in Lecce had been canceled because in Bari, on the same day and practically at the same time, there will be the return final for promotion to Serie A between the hosts and Cagliari. The other Serie A facilities, the only ones taken into consideration because they were equipped with Var, Glt and Saot, were unavailable for other events or for the turf renovation.
Damage and Sassuolo
—
On Monday, the slowdown on the Reggio Emilia destination was also due to the perplexities of Sassuolo which on the last day of the 2021-22 had suffered extensive damage to its plant caused by the invasion of the pitch by the Rossoneri supporters who were celebrating the Scudetto. The risk of an encore was/is real and will be avoided in every possible way. Any damages will be reimbursed by the company whose supporters will be responsible for the damages. No Udine, therefore, a destination that was rejected after the go-ahead on Monday evening due to the gigantic problem of public order raised by the Observatory: the stretch of motorway from Verona to Udine that the two fans were supposed to travel in the same hours. Given the clashes that also took place last March, the risks would have been enormous in every motorway service station.
