The Superpole Race is the race in which Alvaro Bautista’s opponents have the most chances to attack the Spaniard. The one at Misano, which he saw, also confirmed it once again the Ducati rider wonwho was leading the race when the red flag was displayed, caused by a accident between Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona.
Ready away and into the funnel of the second corner the two riders of the Yamaha GRT team, Dominique Aegerter and Remy Gardner fall. Stewart decides a few laps after Petrucci was the cause of the crash and penalizes him with a long lap penalty which will prove to be decisive for the fate of the race.
Bautista starts in the lead but already comes during the first lap overtaken by Toprak Razgatlioglu and the two start a fight made up of constant overtaking. Behind them sparks sparked in the first laps between Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Axel Bassani, but the Ducati official took care of resolving the dispute and in a few laps detached not only the Motocorsa Team rider but also Jonathan Rea, an interested spectator of the all-Italian duel. Meanwhile, leading the race, contrary to what usually happens, Bautista is unable to get away, probably also due to his choice of tyres. The Spaniard is the only one to have mounted the SCX while all the others use the new SCQ brought by Pirelli here at Misano specifically for the sprint race.
On the fifth step Petrucci served his penalty and came back behind Lecuona and two laps later he hit him at the curve of the oak. The two fall heavily to the ground and both remain still. The Italian remains motionless and seems to have lost consciousness while the Spaniard waves his arms to get help.
A few minutes later the red flag is displayed and since the first to complete the sector of the track that the riders had covered before the interruption was Bautista, he is the one who wins ahead of Toprak and Rinaldi.
Fourth position for Bassani who had lost contact with his Italian rival, but had managed to keep the usual diehard Rea at bay. Followed by Alex Lowes, Andrea Locatelli, Xavi Vierge and Garrett Gerloff, the last to score points. While the first three celebrate on the podium, the ambulances take both Lecuona and Petrucci to the Medical Center and as we write we are waiting for news on their state of health
