MOSCOW – Combined forces Russia on Thursday (1/6/2023) killed 30 intruders who attempted to launch an attack in the Belgorod region. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow said the 30 were militia origins Ukraine.
The combined force conducting the major operation in Belgorod, the Russian region bordering Ukraine, consists of the Armed Forces and Border Guards, and other elements of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
At least three attempted attacks were thwarted by the Russian joint forces near the town of Shebekino, Belgorod.
“This morning, the Russian Armed Forces… thwarted a new attempt by the Kiev regime—Russia’s name for Kyiv—to carry out a terrorist act against the civilian population of the city of Shebekino, Belgorod Region,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, Ukraine deployed two infantry companies supported by tanks for the attacks.
“Thanks to the brave actions of the Russian servicemen, three attacks by Ukrainian terrorist groups were repelled,” the ministry said, adding that warplanes belonging to the troops of Russia’s Western Military District had carried out 11 strikes on enemy targets.
“As a result of the active actions of units covering the state border of the Western Military District and the Russian FSB, the terrorist formations of the Kiev regime, which suffered significant losses, were driven away. Violation of state borders is not permitted,” the ministry added.
“During the fighting, Ukrainian troops lost 30 terrorists, four armored fighting vehicles, a Grad MLRS combat vehicle, a pickup truck,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Prior to the offensive being launched, Ukraine was reported to have carried out a rocket artillery barrage against Shebekino. The attack damaged residential buildings and caused injuries among civilians.
Last month, a small contingent of Ukrainian militants equipped with Western military hardware launched an offensive into the Belgorod Region.
The Russian Armed Forces then launched an operation that destroyed the group of intruders, killing 70 people, and forcing the rest to flee back to Ukraine.
Ukraine has never claimed responsibility for the Belgorod attack. They claim to have only fought in Ukrainian territory captured by Russian troops.
