MOSCOW – Military Russia on Monday (5/6/2023) claimed to have thwarted a massive counterattack Ukraine along the Donbas front.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Moscow forces have killed around 250 Kyiv soldiers during the massive offensive that started Sunday.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the ministry said, launched the attack using six mechanized battalions and two tanks.
“In the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a massive attack on five sectors of the front in the direction of South Donetsk,” the ministry said on its Telegram channel, as quoted by Reuters.
The ministry’s statement could not be independently verified.
There has been no immediate comment from Ukraine regarding Russia’s military claims.
“The enemy’s goal is to break through our defenses in the most vulnerable, in his opinion, sector of the front,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. “The enemy failed to achieve its task, did not succeed.”
The ministry also released a video it said showed several Ukrainian armored vehicles in a field exploding after being hit.
“Russian troops killed 250 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed 16 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and 21 armored fighting vehicles,” the ministry added.
