The history

His father, Will Harper (Chris Messina), tries to do everything he can for his daughters, but fails to connect with them emotionally and psychologically. He is a successful home-based therapist, but his inability to communicate with them and talk about the devastating loss of his mother is further tearing an already fractured family apart.
A mysterious new patient, Lester Billings (David Dastmalchian), shows up unexpectedly at her house. Desperate to speak of his grief over the death of his children, he leaves behind an evil presence that dwells in the shadows and feeds on the suffering of his victims. A good horror film does not always have to be linked to blood and guts, I must admit that where I have the worst time is those that play with the viewer’s own internal fears, in this case the night, the darkness, the monster under the bed or in the closet. The Boogeyman plays with all of them and keeps you attentive at all times, something that plays in its favor with the incredible photography of the film. What is not seen is more scary.
Highlighting the work of Rob Savage, a director with extensive experience in the genre and it shows that he is like a fish in water, creating a story where the pain and despair of its protagonists takes physical form, and feeds on that pain, making it more and stronger. It must also be said that Mr. Stephen King loves to create monsters that scare children and ultimately feed on them.
Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair, they bear all the limelight and they do it very well, they know how to convey to the viewer the fear that they live in a very real way, incredible Vivien, we already thought she was great in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series as a very young Leia Organa, but in The Boogeyman, she shines, a great future is in store for this very young star who, in this film, is very reminiscent of the young protagonist of another horror classic, Polstergeist (1982).
Another interpretation to highlight is that of David Dastmalchian, he has a very short appearance but is tremendously impressive, since his character will also be the trigger in the family of all the hell they will experience. The phrase “it is the monster that takes our children when we do not pay attention to them” is a declaration of intent of what is about to happen in that house, and a call to attention to the father of the main girls.
In short, if you are a lover of horror, but that psychological terror that awakens your own inner fears, The Boogeyman is your movie.
