JAKARTA – Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Russia Maria Zakharova, welcomed the peace proposal presented by the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto . He also still remembers the same initiative from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“We respect all countries, organizations, even government officials who are trying to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. After all, there have been at least 20 such proposals, initiatives and attempts,” Zakharova said in a written message distributed by the Russian Embassy, Thursday (8 /6/2023).
“I’m only talking about the official proposal, not including the judgment of experts,” he said.
“We remember the initiative of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo regarding the need for a ceasefire, humanitarian assistance and food security,” he said.
According to Zakharova, the proposal submitted by Prabowo actually reflects the Minsk Agreement which Russia considers to have been sabotaged by Ukraine for eight years with Western support.
“We are talking about a ceasefire and the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the line of contact. In fact, the Ukrainian side is doing neither. They are continuing to destroy Donbass and its inhabitants,” Zakharova said.
“Then why would Kiev now act otherwise? In my opinion, this confirms that, firstly, Kiev does not intend to implement the Minsk Agreements and, secondly, it reveals the true nature of terrorism and extremism of the Kiev regime. This ideology is not will just disappear,” continued Zakharova.
“It’s not even about the Kiev regime forbidding itself to negotiate, but about the presence of an internal ideology that permeates all the figures in Kiev and is “planted” by their Western advisers,” Zakharova continues.
On the other hand, said Zakharova, a re-referendum in the regions that have just joined Russia is not needed because it is final and cannot be revised.
