The official site of the manga One Piece Of Eiichiro Oda announced on Tuesday that the manga will go on hiatus for four weeks (from 19 June to 10 July) from the 29th to the 32nd number of Weekly Shonen Jump this year, due to Oda’s astigmatism surgery. The manga will return in number 33 on July 18. The manga will be released again in next week’s issue #28 on June 12.
Oda she added that astigmatism has made her vision blurry and is affecting her work. She decided to have the surgery after discussing it with her editor last year.
Oda has started serializing the One Piece manga in Weekly Shonen Jump’s magazine Shueisha on July 19, 1997, and has been ongoing ever since. Shueisha released the 105th volume of the manga on March 3 and will release the 106th volume on July 6. The manga centers on Monkey D. Luffy, an aspiring pirate who, like many other pirates, dreams of reclaiming the legendary “One Piece”. treasure left behind by a legendary pirate. He gathers a crew and a ship and explores there Grand Line on a quest for treasure, while also taking on rival pirates and government navies along the way.
The television anime adaptation of the manga premiered in October 1999 and has been on the air ever since.
The anime movie One Piece Film Red came out in Japan in August 2022. The film is the best-selling and most profitable of the franchiseboth in terms of number of tickets sold and yen earned at the box office. The film is the eighth highest-earning film of all time in Japan and topped Japan’s box office for 2022 in terms of yen earned and tickets sold.
Netflix is producing a live-action series adaptation of the manga that will debut this year.
