Yasumi Matsuno, the director of this PS1 classic, does not close the doors to a remastering for current systems. Will the NVIDIA leak come true?
Dreams are dreams. When we talk about video games, there are a few titles that we would like to see back, despite the fact that they have been forgotten for a few years. One of the most special is Final Fantasy Tactics, a true classic from the PS1 catalogue.
In 1997, along with the glorious release of Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix brought us an excellent tactical action game based on the fantasy role-playing universe. It was one of the jewels of the late 90s.
This subsaga would continue on Nintendo consoles, first with a version adapted to Game Boy Advanceand then with a ”sequel” for DS. We do not forget the version ported to PSP.
A couple of years ago, a massive NVIDIA leak mentioned the existence of a remaster for Final Fantasy Tactics. as a curiosity, too mention was made of a remake of Final Fantasy IX (which appears to be in development for PS5).
Could this PS1 classic be back soon? Who knows, but last year we enjoyed a remaster of Valkyria Profile: Lenneth for PS5 and PS4, after the release of Valkyrie: Elysium.
The return of the best tactical role
Yasumi Matsuno, director Final Fantasy Tactics, has shaken the shaker with a series of tweets on social networks. A fan asked him if we would ever see a port of Vagrant Story for Nintendo Switch.
“Heaven only knows,” Matsuno replied, through his official Twitter account. However, the response was different when another fan questioned him about the return of Final Fantasy Tactics.
Of course, Matsuno didn’t confirm that the project exists, so for now it’s just a small hint of hope. Square Enix might not have forgotten about this 1997 classic.
Matsuno was the director of Final Fantasy Tactics, so he knows the game better than anyone. In his answer we can see How do you recognize one of the possible errors that the title had?.
”If we remaster it, what do you think about whether it is good to weaken “The Thunder God Cid”, accused of breaking the balance?” Yasumi Matsuno says in the tweet.
It turns out that this enemy I was too checked by then. Those were other times, and the patches had not yet reached the industry (only on PC). In case Final Fantasy Tactics had a remaster, the story would be very different.
It is another of those wonderful ”what if”which we like so much. However, in this case there is a precedent in the form of a leak, which feeds the rumor.
After so many years (26, to be exact), it is striking that Final Fantasy Tactics back on the lips of Twitter users. We will have to wait for the next Square Enix announcements, but it is clear that this classic role-playing game could return very soon.
