The Summer Game Fest 2023 has started with a bang. Geoff Keighley has shown us an extended gameplay of ‘Mortal Kombat 1‘. And, as expected, the images of the video have not arrived alone. Ed Boon himself, co-creator of the famous game, has appeared on stage to give some of the details of this brutal title.
We’ve had to wait over four years for this moment (since the release of ‘Mortal Kombat 11’) and from what we’ve seen, the wait has been well worth it. The new title comes as a reboot for the series and its characters that is set in the New Age. It will be available from September 19.
A reboot for the series
You may be wondering why they decided to call it ‘Mortal Kombat 1’. This is a question that we have also asked ourselves and it was answered by Boon in an interview at Summer Game Fest. It is a denomination according to the beginning of a new timelinewith the characters we have already seen, but starring in a “completely different” story.
One of the great novelties that the title presents at the gameplay level is that it will allow us to choose a partner from the roster to fight. What does this translate into? In which we can control two characters. We will not play with both simultaneously, without being able to summon the partner at any time, for example, in the middle of a combo to complete the blows.
Another novelty has to do with Jean-Claude Van Damme. The Belgian actor inspired the first johnny cage character, and now it will be when he finally puts himself in the shoes of the character in ‘Mortal Kombat 1’. As we can see, the game comes with many interesting news that we can enjoy in a few months. It will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch and PC on September 19.
