KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur government on Thursday (8/6/2023) was angry and criticized the actions of Singaporean comedians who belittled Malaysia and made fun of the tragedy of the loss of Malaysia Airlines MH370 carrying 239 people.
The Singaporean female comedian is known as “Jocelyn Chia”. He made fun of a stand-up comedy show in New York.
The anger of the Malaysian government was conveyed by Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Zambry in a statement made yesterday said the comedian’s actions showed a lack of sensitivity and empathy towards Malaysians and the families of the victims of the MH370 tragedy.
“The video also clearly depicts behavior that goes against the values of Asian countries which are known for their manners and morals,” Zambry continued, as quoted by Bernama.
“I believe this is not an attitude or action accepted by any country let alone reflecting the official position of any government,” he said, adding that such actions or attempts must stop.
Previously, a viral video on social media showed comedian Jocelyn Chia mocking Malaysia in a comedy show titled “Singapore vs Malaysia” recently held in New York, United States.
The comedian issued a statement that included an offensive joke that also alluded to the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Just to note, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 or MH370 mysteriously disappeared after flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China, on March 8, 2014.
The plane was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew. Of the hundreds of passengers, some of them are Indonesian citizens (WNI).
International search efforts have been carried out several times without success. The Malaysian government concluded that there were no survivors in the tragedy of the loss of flight MH370.
