Big Rom 5 days before the match in Istanbul: “It will be great to play against the best team in the world”
He still doesn’t know if he’ll play from the first minute, but in the meantime Romelu Lukaku has already decided – and explained – how he will approach the Champions League final on 10 June: “I just want to enjoy it without having any pressure, enjoy the moment and go there to get the best possible result”. In fact, the Inter forward spoke to CNN and recounted his feelings less than a week after the match against Manchester City: “Playing against the best team in the world is a wonderful thing. They are a well-trained team, Guardiola has a different game plan, so Haaland always has new chances to score and they manage to open the defences”.

In the interview, Lukaku didn’t limit himself to the big match in Istanbul, but also underlined a correlation in terms of “spirit” of the current team with the one that won the treble 13 years ago. Those in 2010 made him understand that: “Many of the players on that team come to watch our games and feel the same thing.” Then, the story of the pandemic experienced in close contact with teammates in 2020 is curious and perhaps what was said above originates precisely in the bonds consolidated in those months: “It was an exciting moment because we, truly as a team, have been through a lot time together,” she says. “At that time, I was actually spending a lot more time with my teammates than with my eldest son… Playing, going back to the hotel, staying in the room, watching games together and so on.” Now, however, the present is the final: “Now, by the grace of God, I can play one. Being in this position, having my family there, would be a beautiful thing because it’s like closing a circle”. With an emotional tribute to his grandfather who recalls after each goal looking at the sky: “When I see my son, I see so much of him… My grandfather was my number one for me, my biggest fan. I promised him that I would take I looked after my mother, when I was 12, and I did. So every time I look at my mother and I see her in the stands, I look at him after every goal.” Who knows if in Istanbul Lukaku will have the opportunity to turn his gaze to the sky once more…
