Joke Kerkhoff has her own experiences with the April-May strikes. “I remember very well that my father was arrested during the raids, and that he was taken away. My mother and I went to the Enschedestraat, there was a group in a very large meadow. My father walked with a sling, because he had a had had surgery on his little finger. It was half amputated. A soldier told him to take off the bandage and prove it was real. Then he could go home. That event, that feeling, stayed with me very much.”
